Joe Pug Announces $10 Tour!

Indie singer-songwriter Joe Pug has a reputation for taking care of his fans. First, he mailed them free CDs (which he’s still doing on his website – www.joepugmusic.com). Then he gave them the In The Meantime EP for free. Now, he has taken it a step further by keeping prices low for shows on his upcoming $10 Tour. “It’s been my honor over the last two years to play support for artists that I admire deeply,” Pug explains. “This fall, however, the show is ours. And since we’re at the top of the bill, we make the rules. So let’s start here… tickets will be ten dollars. Traveling the country night after night we've seen folks in every city tightening their belts. That you spend a few of those stretched dollars on our shows is heartening. We'd like to show our appreciation.”

Pug’s own concert experience inspired him to do what he can to avoid ticket charges. “A few months back,” recalls Pug, “I bought tickets for a concert- which shall remain nameless- only to get manhandled by service charges and by their Newspeak cousins, ‘convenience fees.’ The actual price was nearly double the face of the ticket. Half of my money was going to the band I loved, the other half to horse-thieves. Reining in ticket fees has been notoriously difficult, even for artists of great influence. But in a small step, we negotiated to do SOME of the tickets directly through our website. We're going to try this for the Chicago show on 10/16. The first 50 tickets will be available exclusively at my website with zero fees. The amount charged to your credit card will be exactly 10 bucks per ticket. If all goes well we hope to roll out the no-fee ticketing for entire tours.”

Pug has been on the road for most of 2010 supporting his critically-praised new album, Messenger. Paste Magazine declared that "unless your surname is Dylan, Waits, Ritter or Prine, you could face-palm yourself to death trying to pen songs half as inspired as the 10 tracks on Joe Pug's debut full-length. 9.1 out of 10”

Pug and his Hundred Mile Band just wrapped up a successful summer tour that climaxed with Pug performing “The Weight” with Elvis Costello and The Levon Helm Band in Vancouver ( Watch the video HERE). This September, he’ll perform at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium at the Americana Association Honors and Awards show where he’s nominated for the Best New and Emerging Artist award.

BUDDY GUY TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FROM THE BLUES FOUNDATION AT 2010 BLUES MUSIC AWARDS
On May 6th, 2010 at the 31st annual Blues Music Awards, The Blues Foundation will publicly honor blues legend Buddy Guy with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The Foundation has commissioned for this special occasion a one-of-a-kind award from Patterson & Barnes, who also created the original artwork that serves as the basis for the 2010 poster. There will also be an oral and video presentation, as well as a special musical tribute, all in the legend's honor. Buddy Guy will be at the ceremony to receive this honor.

In speaking about this great honor, The Blues Foundation's Executive Director Jay Sieleman said "Buddy Guy has been a mentor and inspiration to five generations of musicians in multiple genres while he has continued to innovate. He has greatly expanded the blues definition while maintaining the anchor characteristics that first defined the genre, and with this distinction, we are proud to present him with this honor and tribute."

King Sunny Ade
Our thoughts are with King Sunny Ade as he mourns the loss of two members of his band.

On March 26, 2010, two members of King Sunny Ade’s band—Gabriel Ayanniyi (talking drum) and Omo Olope (percussion) were killed in a car accident, while on their way to a music video shoot. Final plans for the U.S. tour hit a snag since that time and, possibly as a result of this loss, communication between KSA’s Nigerian management and U.S. management has become attenuated. Managers are currently awaiting approval by the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria for replacement musicians if the rest of the tour can be salvaged. “Gabriel was a great protégée talking drum player that everyone in Nigeria was talking about,” says Ade’s U.S. manager Andy Frankel. “These musicians’ deaths is a great loss.”

The following dates have been canceled as the group deals with this tragedy. Please contact the venue directly for any ticket refunds.
