Smash Mouth

Smash Mouth

Biography

"We've got so many hits on this new record it's ridiculous" says Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell. Harwell oughta know a thing or two about hit songs. His band has charted more hits than a World War || battleship. Smash Mouth, the band that's given you such memorable songs as "All-Star," "Walkin' on the Sun," "Then the Morning Comes," and "I'm a Believer," is back for more season-of-the-sun fun with their vibrant new CD "MAGIC".

"MAGIC" is a no-holds-barred party from start to finish. First-listen gems such as "Flippin' Out" and "Magic" jump out at you like a barrel full of monkeys. Both these songs also feature young super talent J. Dash. The dynamic 25-year old wunderkind was a long-time Smash Mouth fan when he was tapped to sprinkle a little "magic" on these tracks.

Produced by neophyte guitarist Mike Krompass (Nelly Furtado, David Archuleta), "MAGIC" also opens the curtain on a more mature Smash Mouth. On tracks like "Better With Time" and "Out of love," we hear just how much Steve Harwell's voice has developed from the rantin'-chantin' approach he favored on early Smash Mouth offerings. He's equally strong on "Future Ex-Wife" (let me take you home/can't you see that I don't wanna be alone ). This heartbreaking-hilarious ode to doomed domestic bliss is also as catchy as they come.

Founding bassist Paul Delisle and long-time keyboardist Michael Klooster lay down their time-tested, solid foundation on tracks such as "She's Into Me," and "Perfect Planet".
Paul and Michael's uniquely thoughtful musical approach and spot-on arrangement sensibilities have been a mandatory trademark of the Smash Mouth sound.

Newcomers Mike Krompass and Randy Cooke both shine on tracks such as "The Game" where we find Cooke simultaneously bone-breaking and greasy-groovy. Krompass plays with the confident ease and finesse of a seasoned pro. Which he is. Hardcore Smash Mouth fans will be glad to hear the band hasn't forgotten it's roots on tracks such as "Perfect Planet" and "Future Ex-Wife". Smash Mouth is also gearing up for their beloved, annual summertime sojourn across America...coming to a venue near you!

Coinciding with the summer release of "MAGIC", Smash Mouth invades the literary world with a rock 'n roll cookbook; "Recipes from the Road". This is not your grandmother's run-of-the-mill recipe collection. "Recipes from the Road" is a unique fusion of delicious recipes, hilarious real-life road stories straight from "The 'Mouth", candid road photos, and guest recipes from pop icons such as Guy Fieri (Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives), Sammy Hagar (Van Halen), Jerome Bettis (Pittsburgh Steelers), and Michael Symon (Iron Chef, the Chew), all displayed in a beautiful, eye-popping layout. These are recipes from restaurants the band has visited in the course of their 15 years of nearly non-stop U.S. touring.

A look back to Smash Mouth's formative years shows us a band determined to make an impact from the get go. Formed in late 1994, the band immediately begins recording demos and showcasing in both San Jose and Hollywood CA. In June 1997, Smash Mouth is signed to Interscope Records when label brass catch wind of an unknown (and unsigned) band being ADDED to highly-influential L.A. radio station KROQ's playlist after only one (!) spin of their song "Walkin' on the Sun". Smash Mouth's major-label debut "Fush Yu Mang" goes more than DOUBLE PLATINUM and sets the table for what most consider their masterpiece, the brilliant follow-up album "Astrolounge". No sophomore slump for these guys. Boasting three top-ten hits ("All-Star," "Then the Morning Comes," and "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby,") sales for "Astrolounge" are nearly double those for their debut, approaching QUADRUPLE PLATINUM status. Smash Mouth's third eponymous Interscope release features the ecstatic first single "Pacific Coast Party" and the smash hit "I'm a Believer". Around this time, Smash Mouth crosses over to the film world by providing the musical heart of the soundtrack for "Shrek" and even making a cameo appearance in the movie "Rat Race". In recent years, Smash Mouth has focused on touring and entertaining troops in Japan, Guam, Guantanamo Bay, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

So get ready for a "MAGIC"-al year! We all know Smash Mouth is the ultimate summertime party band...And with jumpin' songs like “Magic,” "Flippin' Out," and "The Game," Smash Mouth's new CD "MAGIC" is the perfect soundtrack for your year 'round fun in the sun baby.
